Working TPs on "Tables"
I've seen a few videos with TPs being flown to/from a small table in front of the individual coops in a loft. My lofts are situated with a courtyard (all sand), and I'm planning on building a 4 foot x 4 foot "table" in between the two lofts.
I'll initially place a hen or two in show coops on that table before liberating a cоck or two to "work" the hens. Then I'll start free flying the hens and release the cocks to chase them.
Eventually, I want to build a small portable pen I can place on the "table" so a lone cоck will have to entice a hen back to his pad and into the pen through a drop hole trap in the roof of the portable pen. That will allow me to "work" my TPs for my own enjoyment and to keep their fires burning.
Has anyone tried this approach or something similar? I'd like to hear about your successes and failures.

Shannon,
This forum was just re-opened, so it will take a while before people filter back in.

OK, Alan. Maybe asking this question will get a few to filter in. Plus I am curious and need to know.

That sounds like a decent Idea if all looking to do is check there work on the ground, but you will need to come up with a system for checking how they work in the air as well because you also need to check their work in the air. Maybe by releasing at a distance.

Re: Working TPs on "Tables"
Yes. Excellent point. The goal is to have a place to which I can move a portable box. The cocks will return to that table, and the nest box,(they'll be worked in a true suelta fashion at my loft but two will be in training to fly to that portable box) and entice the hen into the portable box.
I can "play" the cocks on that table as I train them. Might be enough for this viejo, but I will see once I get them working next year.
With TPs the possibilities are as endless as the imagination of the one training them. But . . . I was schooled in the old way of neighborhood suelta flying by Jose Morales of Seville when he lived in New Mexico. I am anxiuous to try some of the newer methods; that's why I am here at this forum.
