Blue Grizzle Gaditanos

Blue Grizzle is one of my Gaditano color projects. It does not exist as far as I know in the breed, or it's extremely rare.

I have made some good progress without having to out cross.

First I bred this Blue Bar cоck

with a T-pattern Ash Red Grizzle hen

To my suprise one of the offspring was a Blue Bar Grizzle

which means the ash red grizzle hen had to be split for bar. Sometimes you get lucky!

I then bred her back to her father and now have 4 more Blue Bar Grizzles, two of the cocks are very nice birds:

It didn't take very long for this project and was well worth the effort, as BBG looks fantastic on Gaditanos!

Blue Bar has always been my favorite, but I think you've made it better.

Steve, those two Blue Bars you got are from the father/daughter pair I spoke about in the previous post.

Alan, The Blue Grizzles look great on the Gaditano's. Too many Grizzles in Horseman not enough in the Gaditano's. Joe

Hi Gaditano,
love the birds,we don't have this breed in New zealand, but we have Valentcian thief pouters, of which i have about 30,
I am hoping to make something similar to the gaditano, by grossing with my norich croppers.
I am wondering if there needs to be any other breeds.
Your thoughts would be most welcome.
Cheers
Colin.

Hi Colin emoticon

How come you all don't have more breeds down there?

Marcheneros might be good in the mix. If they are not available you might try pretezel type breeding with the Valencianos and Norwich. In time you should be able to recreate the Gaditano... but most would be dead ringers for Horseman Thief Pouters.

I once crossed Brunners with Laudinos and got birds that could pass as Horseman. I'll bet Valencianos x Norwich would do the same, maybe even better.
