Re: Pygmies
I have seen some pigmy pouters which look very much like the horsemans. They are nowhere near the temperament. But they look cute.

Re: Pygmies
I got 21 Pygmies in and aplit them with a friend.
Cute is the word. I call them super models with boots.
He sent two nestlings along with their parents, boy are they cute when babies.
I guess I'll have to learn a whole new breed.

Re: Pygmies
Here's one of our Pygmies. She is a Brown Bar. She's not blowing yet because we have only had them about 24 hours or so.

Re: Pygmies
Thanks.
The are quite cute when the cocks display. With those long legs and thin bodies when the tail fans out it looks cool.
These are Kevin Heppner bloodlines.

Re: Pygmies
Nice Pigmies Alan, I like that type, they seem a bit stocky compared to UK birds which seem to be more slender?

Re: Pygmies
Thanks for the photos Graeme! You always come through mate
The UK brand seems to be much taller too. It looks to me like the legs are longer, much longer.
I have no idea which is closer to the standard. We might even have two different standards, I don't know. I know nothing about this breed.

Re: Pygmies
I have a copy of the UK standard but I'm not sure if it is the current one, it has no scale of points.
Pigmy Pouter~Standard
Head: Dove shaped, small, smooth on top, fine and narrow in proportion to body.
Beak: Fine mandibles, straight, upper slightly curved at tip. The beak is black in Blacks and Blues - in other colours, flesh coloured.
Wattles: Small and fine in texture.
Eye: Full, with mild expression; colour in pied birds, red or orange, and in whites 'Bull' eyes.
Cere: Fine and thread-like.
Globe: Proportionately large in comparison with size of bird, globular in form, equally distended at all parts, forward in position and rising without over-inflation so that the beak rests comfortably upon it, coming out from the waist with a sudden sweep, showing a slight fullness at the back of the neck, which should be proportionately long.
Body: Tapering like a wedge, from shoulder to end of tail, becoming very fine behind the legs, giving a slender appearance.
Waist: Slim, light and well defined.
Shoulders: Small and flat, set high and tight to body.
Back: Narrow, short and hollow, tapering to the tail.
Rump: Narrow, shallow, straight and smooth.
Belly: Narrow and tapering to the vent.
Front: Narrow, 'V' shaped, straight, long and showing very little keel.
Wings: Short and shallow, close to the body, showing plenty of waist and upper part of thigh, wings uncrossed.
Tail: Short and narrow, not quite touching the ground.
Limbs: Front view - placed well back from the waist, thigh and hock joint straight, inclining slightly inwards to knee. Side view - following the line of body with convex line of thigh to hock. Proportionately lengthy. The entire limb fine in bone, feathered closely and evenly, with stocking like appearance. Toes well covered to tips with fairly lengthy feathers.
Size: The smaller and more slender the better.
Colours: Blue, Yellow, Silver, Cream, Black, Red, all standard Pieds and white.
Markings: The above colours cover the bird with the exception of the following:
(a) a small white crescent, the horns of which reach to about ½ inch (12mm) from each eye.
(b) a few white feathers on shoulders in the shape of a rose, and 10 white flight feathers.
(c) White on all the body, below a line encircling centre of the waist.
(d) Reds and Yellows have white tails - all other colours, the tail is the same colour as the body.
