Miami
I was speaking with a Pouter guy in Miami and he said where he lives there's a lot of competition in the thieving sport. He said if he let out a hen there would be a dozen of more pouter cocks on her within a few minutes.
He said the purebred is not very popular anymore. The fad is to make your own crosses.

Re: Miami
that is true! i also talked to a guy who says the exact same thing. Pigeon wars is what he calls it. They have a certain time they start it in the afternoon. Sounds cool, i wish i had that where i lived. Plus he says whatever goes, cross breeds are better for that game.

Re: Miami
I wonder if the cross breeds are actually better or if that's just a tradition because that's how they do it in Cuba. Or maybe the pure birds are too expensive to lose? The reason I say this is because I was talking with a guy over in Spain and he said they almost exclusively use the pure birds. I don't have the answer, just thinking out loud.

Re: Miami
My personal opinion;
It is true a lot of people here are not into pure breed but they are forgetting where their birds come from; Cross breeds are great birds to fly and thieve, they are also more resistant to getting sick...
But I like to fly pure breeds, I enjoy their different flying styles their work and seduction skills, after all they were created with that purpose in mind.
also less not forget that all pure breed where created by crossing.
I continue selecting my pure breeds, that like to fly and work, the offspring do not cost me any money.
