Another Gaditano

This is my pride & joy for last year's breeding season. I always pick out one favorite every year.

Re: Another Gaditano

My guess would be spread ash red. I have lots of variations of red in my Valencian Figuritas. If one of them had it and I was entering it in a show I'd just put down Ash Red. I am the only one around here who shows them, usually.

Is one of it's parents a Qualmond? If so, I would say it's a Qualmond.

Very pretty Bandee, you have come a long ways with the breed.

One's a qualmond, the other's an ash red. It never fails I get one of these & one black squeaker every round. I do not like the color of the black squeaker, it's too dull looking.

Keep some of those dull blacks around, they are perfect for adding to the Indigos I am coming out with soon. Dull Black + Indigo = super looking Andalusians. Dull Blacks make for better lacing on the Andalusians.

It's possible it's a Spread Ash Red Qualmond. I don't think I have ever seen one. It seems to light to be a straight Blue Qualmond or a straight Spread Ash Red.

I have an Ash Red Qualmond, but he is not Spread, therefore he shows a lot of Red. Spread eliminates most of the Red in an Ash Red and "spreads" the tail bar color (in this case Ash) all over the entire bird.

Here's my Ash Red Qualmond:

Re: Another Gaditano

BTW... he is proven to be Qualmond because he was short downed in the nest and has produced other Qualmonds when mated to a non-Qualmond.

I could also sex him the day he was born. His mom was a Brown Qualmond and his dad a Mealy. Since there were no other down shorting factors involved, all the short downed babies were Qualmond cocks and all the long downed babies were non-Qualmond hens. Of course they were all Ash Reds because the father didn't carry Blue or Brown.

I forgot what mealy is. What is it?

So you can sex just by the down?

I have four of these last photos types of ash red from Miami, they have his aggressiveness. As soon as they were old enough to latch on to my finger they have been driving me out of the nest.

I really like this color, can't wait till they mature!

Alan it was funny, when I was transferring these photos to load up, one of my girls walked in and said ,wow, nice Gads who's are those? I laughed & said mine! With your help & a few others , we are starting to get really nice stock. I still have one of my originals and a few color projects, huge difference!!!!
