Voorburgs
Does anyone here keep Voorburgs?
I am supposed to get a pair of Blacks and a pair of Brown Bars from a friend this week. I am wondering what the scoop is on this breed.

Re: Voorburgs
They are very friendly Alan, just as friendly as the Spanish. They are also capable breeders, though I had quite a lot of problems with crop binding in my black cocks, but I think that was just down to the particular strain I had. Coloured feathers in the white areas aren't so much of a problem, but you need to be careful not to let the white creep into the wing shield. Slip flights and bishop wings and such like just get worse. A very nice breed though. Evan (Pouterpotty) is the man to ask, he has kept them since Theodore Van Gink invented them.

Re: Voorburgs
My daughter breeds & show them. They are a hoot to have. Extremely tame, hens more so than cocks. Less prone to sour crop than norwich. (We've never had problems) Good parents. One hen "Laverne" will fly onto our shoulder, always in our way when scraping, another hen will blow & bow to get your attention. Yet another likes to cuddle under our chin & will remains there for several minutes. Our cocks are all about showing off, not too interested in being held. Very comical!!
Mismarks & bishops wings was a problem this yr for her

Re: Voorburgs
I got the two pairs of Voorburgs. Very attractive breed. The Blacks are real nice with the contrasting black and white markings.

Re: Voorburgs
I also received a mealy cоck, a blue bar hen and a pair of reds. The mealy and red cocks have quite a show resume.
I also ended up with 6 birds from another source. There's a couple of reds, a yellow, two blacks and two spread ash reds. But I gave them to a friend before I even got them home to examine them. The friend only keeps NY Flights and fell in love with the Voorburgs in my truck when I was cooing at them, so I let him take them. We can always use another Pouter convert. I did keep the black cоck.
I have two pairs in my Horseman loft. They are no where near as animated as the Horseman but can hold their own because they are larger. It may make a nice community loft, we'll see.
No pics yet.
