I have shown in Louisville but gave it up because of lack of competition. There were only a few Spanish Pouters there. If you guys are going to go for sure,I will bring my Jiennense this year. It is a long drive from Michigan for nothing. By the way Bryan Neuner from the Central Pouter Club is very knowledgable on judging Spanish Pouters. We can get him to judge. In the ninties I started a Spanish Pouter Club in the U.S.but it failed because of lack of interst. Maybe it is time to try again?

Firingo -
Can you tell me who has real good Rafeno in Miami? I had real nice ones from Arturo Mesa that I kept for years. Unfortunately because of lack of new blood they deteriorated in quality. I would like to have them again. Let me know please.
Thank you, Mike

Re: My laudino Breeders-American standard bred and Spanish standard bred

If I may intrude, I have never seen a good quality Rafeño in Miami and I have seen several concidering it is a rare breed in Miami. I have seen some "OK" Rafeños but the majority are bad quality.

I recently purchase one female that had very nice body according to the stantard, for a mix I wanted to do, and when I went back to the petshop to sell her again, saw another female of OK quality from the same breeder.

When one sells something to a petshop is usually because its not that good of quality, which leads me to belive that the breeder that took the Rafeños to the petshop originlly, may have something better in his loft than what he took to the petshop, however, I will specualte and make an educated guess based on the Rafeños that I have seen in the city, on the lack of popularity of the breed and the fact that is a pigeon that does not get imported much, and say that as far as I am concern, there are no good quality Rafeños in Miami.

Do you guys think the reason for rafeno being poor quality is because they havent been popular as working thieves? So there hasnt been alot of importing?

Its not a popular breed, its not as easy to breed as other breeds, I don't know of anyone that has imported any in the last few years so its very probable that what ever Rafeños there are in Miami come from imported birds of years past and the blood lines have not been refresh with new blood. Those that have any knowledge of inbreeding pigeons know that the method is a double edge sword because the negative traits and recesive traits can become very common and if you have no new blood with the desired traits to correct the defects, you are stuck with a line of pigeons with bad traits and nothing to correct it with.

Alan -
Maybe if we put up a few awards at Louisville, DesMoines and the National in Salt Lake City for Spanish Pouters we could get a group going. Most of the guys I knew are out of birds now, you probobly have more contacts than I do.
