Re: Spanish Color Chart Project
I am breeding the Jiennense now and getting some results back. I have mated all the questionable colored birds to Wild Types (Blue Bars) to see what we are dealing with. I'll give the results as I get more offspring. But this one has me puzzled. The pair is a Blue Bar cоck x a Rosado hen. One of the babies is a Brown Bar How can this be? Am I wrong in assuming it's a Brown Bar? Or what's happening here? I didn't even know Jiennense came in Brown?

Re: Spanish Color Chart Project
This is mom when she was young, a typical Rosada. Dad is a Blue Bar.

Re: Spanish Color Chart Project
I got them all from Mike but Mike bred all the others except this cоck. If I'm not mistaken Mike usually breeds Blue Bar to Blue Bar, which means his cocks won't carry Brown. But this one was not bred by Mike, so he must carry Brown.
I have been doing some research and it appears Brown exists in the breed. Check out these photos from Spain. This raises all sorts of questions such as I wonder what a faded Brown looks like, and why don't we see them in Tobacco (spread brown), and is Brown very rare in the US, and has Mike bred any Browns?

Re: Spanish Color Chart Project
Notice the false pearl eye on those brown bars. It sure is red for a false pearl. I assume that's because Jiennense naturally have a bright fire red eye. This brown's sire also has a very red eye. I hope it carries over to this baby.
