Yea sourcrop seems to be a real big issue with Gaditanos and the larger cropper breeds ...ive lost many a good Ghent to this myself ....Ive only just recently started a new feeding regime , where i have changed my feeding mixture to one of smaller seeds ect , and keep the feeders full at all times so they dont gorge on the food ...There is somwhat a marginal waste doing this with food dropping threw the floor grills , but i feel id rather have some waste than sour croped birds ..so its worth it in the long run. I would love to see some more pictures of your birds or a little video if thats possible Alan Peter McCartney Junior Scotland uk nondisclosed_email@example.com (peter4pm)Mon, 17 Aug 2009 04:40:34 +0000 Re: Gaditanohttps://bpoutersandcroppers.runboard.com/p665,from=rss#post665https://bpoutersandcroppers.runboard.com/p665,from=rss#post665Nothing fancy really. I keep them spread out all over the place, wherever I can and where they are safe from fighting and possible sour crop problems. I keep the extra cocks and hens separated in small lofts of their own. I keep the breeders in large individual cages, one pair per cage. When they aren't breeding I keep my best birds separate from the others in small individual cages. In the summer when it's so hot here, I keep them inside in my large fish room so there will no danger of sour crop. I live in the desert of Arizona and in the summer it's very hot and dry at 100 F plus every day, which causes them to over drink. This way the temp is controlled to around 80 and the humidity is brought up.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Alan Bliven)Sun, 16 Aug 2009 17:25:32 +0000 Re: Gaditanohttps://bpoutersandcroppers.runboard.com/p664,from=rss#post664https://bpoutersandcroppers.runboard.com/p664,from=rss#post664Yes i can see what you mean ...Yea its always the case ...you sell birds then leave yourself short its always the way my friend. Have you any pictures of your setup how you keep them in the loft ect ,,,id be interested to see that ?nondisclosed_email@example.com (peter4pm)Sun, 16 Aug 2009 12:53:43 +0000 Re: Gaditanohttps://bpoutersandcroppers.runboard.com/p663,from=rss#post663https://bpoutersandcroppers.runboard.com/p663,from=rss#post663Yes, they are very hard to sex at that age. It's my own fault, I went and sold a friend some hens and it left me with extra cocks. Some of these cocks I hate to sell, but I just have too many. The Blue Checks are the best. It's easier to get good quality birds in Blue Check because of the color. If these two were any other color, I would never let them go. However, as a bonus, they both carry Brown. The second one has a HUGE round globe. The 4th one is an excellent all around bird.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Alan Bliven)Sun, 16 Aug 2009 12:50:17 +0000 Re: Gaditanohttps://bpoutersandcroppers.runboard.com/p662,from=rss#post662https://bpoutersandcroppers.runboard.com/p662,from=rss#post662Alan ...they look like decent quality birds although deep in the moult i see , yea it must be harder shifting single birds without hens or the other way around as people want pairs dont they unless they are short of cocks or hens ect ... You have 50 of them ...Damn im moving to the U.S lol Peter nondisclosed_email@example.com (peter4pm)Sun, 16 Aug 2009 12:45:54 +0000 Re: Gaditanohttps://bpoutersandcroppers.runboard.com/p661,from=rss#post661https://bpoutersandcroppers.runboard.com/p661,from=rss#post661Alan, lol I'm the other around I have more hens than cock birds last month I put four young together at 6 month old they all turn out to be hens 4 egges in each nest, I fine them hard to sex out at that age. I have paid on average 300.00 USD per pair for my birds. Currently, I have five nice cocks up for sale at 75.00 each, but they are not moving because I have no hens to go with them. They are pictured below: nondisclosed_email@example.com (Alan Bliven)Sun, 16 Aug 2009 10:15:31 +0000 Re: Gaditanohttps://bpoutersandcroppers.runboard.com/p659,from=rss#post659https://bpoutersandcroppers.runboard.com/p659,from=rss#post659Looks like ive alot to learn about this breed in terms of pairing for certain colours ect ect . But as you say none of this matters until i can get hold of some quality breeding stock , And that doesnt look like its happening anytime soon , It's going to be a long process by the looks of things. Are they easy to come by where your located alan ? Tiger Grizzle is a dominate color gene. That means whatever you mate him to at least 1/2 of his offspring will be Tiger Grizzle too. To get more good quality Tiger Grizzles mate him to a self colored bird like a Brown, Black, Blue or Red. If you do that, 1/2 of the offspring will be Tigers and 1/2 will be self colored. You get better quality markings by mating them with selfs. Unless you want birds almost all white, stay away from pairing him up with another Tiger or a bird with white. You will get some nicely marked birds but as a rule they will white-out. I guess none of it really matters unless you can find a hen. If you can't find a hen, mate him with one of the Gaditano/Horseman you have.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Alan Bliven)Sat, 15 Aug 2009 13:06:27 +0000 Re: Gaditanohttps://bpoutersandcroppers.runboard.com/p656,from=rss#post656https://bpoutersandcroppers.runboard.com/p656,from=rss#post656Hi Alan, I'm still a bit new to the correct names , colour schemes for Gaditanos , Something i need to brush up on since this is a breed i really want get heavily envolved in if i can locate some pairs in the future. I've been told this is a tiger marked bird by mr Pat Moran from here in the uk , If you have any relevany inforemation on the different colours ...like some kind of colour chart ect id greatfully appreciate it And yea its strange how you put two certain colours together expecting that colour and in turn get simething totally different , i take it to be the genes of the parents of the birds ect or something like that. I have Brown, I have Mottle, I have Qualmond, but I have yet to breed a Brown Mottle or even a Brown Qualmond. My Qualmond cocks that carry Brown aren't producing Browns, even when mated to a Brown hen. I've been told the reason is there is a conflict here with Brown and Qualmond because of the carry-over factor. Which is something that's beyond me. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Alan Bliven)Fri, 14 Aug 2009 10:30:36 +0000 Gaditanohttps://bpoutersandcroppers.runboard.com/p654,from=rss#post654https://bpoutersandcroppers.runboard.com/p654,from=rss#post654This is the other Gaditano cock bird i mentioned i owned Peter nondisclosed_email@example.com (peter4pm)Fri, 14 Aug 2009 08:10:53 +0000
