Re: Barless Blue Radar Project

The whole idea with adding Homer to thief pouters is to increase flying ability. But the Moroncelos are great fliers and don't need it. The exception would be if you want a Radar type that needs long distance Homing ability, then you would need 1/4 Homer blood.

As far as Picas go, they used to be used as the breed of choice to add fire to the mix and a 1/4 Pica would have been bred out the bad Pica habits such as pecking the hen and a lack of conservation. BUT with the Moroncelo now available, they have as much fire as a Pica and can be used in place of the Pica because they are more gentle.

Yeah that makes sense Alan. I didn't look at it that way. I have the problem of aggression in my crosses from the Dutch Valenciana but unfortunately we are limited to what we have to work with.

Re: Barless Blue Radar Project

Thanks Mark. Alan shipped me a marvelous pair of Barless. Last Barless Racing Homer I had was in 1996. 'Bout time I got some more! And yes, those Cooper's live here as well. I have had a pair of resident Cooper's that migrate down here in early September then leave latter part of February. Many migrate through in September, but this one pair has learned that the Whitewing and Barbary doves are in abundance in my immediate area.

If the Moroncelos are as good as you say, Alan, then I DO need to add some of that breed to my Radar mix. See my comment below about one of the Moroncelo cocks I have from you.

Yes, Gary, there is a local fancier who bought some Laudinos from Alan last year. I haven't seen him in months but need to check with him and find out if he still has any. I'd like to use a few in my Radar project. At this juncture I have two pairs of HTP cоck crossed on Homer hens; I noticed today that the last Moroncelo cоck Alan shipped to me has paired with the Blue Bar Pica hen, so . . . I'll let them raise a couple rounds before I mate him with the 1/2 Moroncelo/1/2 Morrillero hen.

Thanks for your inquiry, but I bought a pair of barless from Alan Bliven--see his posts just above. Contact Alan. He might have some for sale. His web site--Circus Lofts--has some photos of Barless with good racing records.

Hmmm, just went to get the URL for the photos of the homers and see that Alan doesn't have a link to that page any longer. Contact Alan for more information.

Thanks, there's so much more that could be done, but I am spending that time on the Facebook pigeon pages... lots of action on FB, but I think I waste a lot of time there.
